Investigating the Fentanyl Crisis
|
Criminal Cartels are targeting American children with "rainbow fentanyl" by making this lethal drug look like candy. Last week, I opened an investigation to understand if/how the Department of Homeland Security plans to address this issue to protect our children.
|
The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) recently warned that cartels are specifically manufacturing this new form of fentanyl to get children hooked at a young age. In August alone, law enforcement in 18 states seized “rainbow fentanyl.” In September, the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut charged two men with trafficking approximately 15,000 “rainbow fentanyl” pills including thousands in candy bags.
Deadly drugs continue to pour into our communities as a direct result of the Biden Border Crisis and their unwillingness to address it. This has led to fentanyl poisoning becoming the leading killer of young Americans with over 100,000 deaths in the past year.
The Biden administration has overseen one of the biggest drug trafficking operations in American history.

Standing for American Energy
|
Last week, I spoke at the Unleashing American Energy Summit.
When it comes to current gas prices, it is clear that this Administration’s assault on American oil and gas has disincentivized expanded production — thereby keeping prices high. The White House claims to be expanding production, yet they begrudgingly hold lease sales and sluggishly approve pipelines and drilling permits.
To make matters worse, this Administration pleads with Saudi Arabia to pump more oil, uses oil from our emergency reserves to slightly offset prices, and urges Americans to buy electric cars as a solution. Their strategy for reducing gas prices is only making us energy insecure.
Texans stand ready to meet our nation’s energy demands, but the Biden administration would prefer to push their irresponsible "Green Agenda." We must make a return to Trump-era energy policies and regain energy independence.

Honoring PFC Adelaido Mata Solis
|
U.S. Army Private First Class Adelaido Mata Solis was only 19 years old when he was deployed during the Korean War. Like countless others, Solis was captured by Chinese and North Korean forces and was killed in an inhumane prisoner-of-war camp. For over 60 years his remains have rested in Hawaii, unidentified until recently.
Last week, I had the tremendous honor of presenting the Solis family with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol, in his honor, at his formal memorial service in Bloomington.
Veterans have continued to preserve the fabric of our nation through selfless acts, and our nation owes them a tremendous debt.

Rep. Cloud Helps Secure $9.6 Million Grant for Port of Palacios
Washington, D.C.—The Port of Palacios was awarded a $9.6 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
In April of 2022, Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) sent a letter to DOT in support of the Port of Palacios’ Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIPD) grant application.
The Project consists of the rehabilitation of the bulkhead and vessel berthing areas in Turning Basins 1 and 2, including the repair or replacement of roughly 5,600 feet of bulkhead and installation of approximately 20 vessel-to-shore power stations with multiple outlets to serve several vessels at once.
“I was happy to support the Port of Palacios’ grant application and I’m thankful to see the Department of Transportation award this grant request,” Congressman Cloud said. “This funding enables the Port of Palacios to make needed rehabilitations and upgrade its infrastructure to withstand potential natural disasters and increase capacity for larger vessels. I’m eager to see the economic opportunities this grant will help bring.”
“We are extremely excited about this opportunity. This is the first time in the 82-year history of the Navigation District that we will receive any Federal Grant Funds for our infrastructure. This funding will allow us to update and repair half of our dock space, but most importantly allow us to install shore power which will allow the vessels to plug in to and help reduce emissions while they are in port.” – Port of Palacios Director Victor Martinez Jr.
