John,
Election Day is just a week away.
We’re still closely watching what’s happening in Iran. At the forefront of our minds are the tens of thousands of Iranians protesting for the right of self-determination and dozens being killed by state forces.
We are devastated at these atrocities and wholeheartedly condemn the actions of the Iranian government. At the same time, we are also deeply proud to be supporting a record number of Iranian-American women running for office here in the U.S. who are bringing their family stories to public leadership for our collective good.
Some of our endorsed candidates, including Darya Farivar and Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson, joined me and other Iranian-American women running for office or serving as elected officials in signing a letter [[link removed]] calling for support for the brave women protesting for freedom in Iran. Nearly 20 Iranian-American elected leaders and candidates have joined our call to action to support the protestors in Iran.
These women are the epitome of what it means to stand up for their communities, which is even harder when people on the internet disparage your every move. I’m in awe of their courage and persistence. They aren’t letting the targeted attacks detract from their campaigns.
In the final days before this election, as Iranians fight for their basic freedoms against an oppressive regime, we must take full advantage of our freedom to cast ballots in free and fair elections as Iranian Americans here.
