Dear Jack:

A week doesn’t go by without someone claiming that artificial intelligence (AI) will make humans obsolete.
 
You and I know that’s not true. Unfortunately, many people in our culture are being seriously misled by overblown claims about AI. Convinced the human brain is merely a machine made out of meat, they fear that humans will be replaced by “intelligent” robots driven by AI.
 
The mission of the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Discovery Institute is to counter this dehumanizing view by exploring the benefits as well as the challenges raised by AI in light of the enduring truth of human exceptionalism.
 
Under the leadership of Robert J. Marks from Baylor University, the Bradley Center has already become a leading voice for sanity in debates over AI:

* Our Mind Matters News platform has reached more than 700,000 readers in 2019, and its articles have been viewed more than 1.9 million times.
* Our Mind Matters podcast has attracted nearly 100,000 downloads/listens since 2018.
* Our academic research grants have funded research projects and books exploring the limits of machine learning and documenting the unique capacities of the human mind.
* Our entrepreneurship initiative has funded a project to create jobs in Haiti by utilizing smart phone and wireless payment technologies to enable the operation and management of micro-grids for power generation.
* Our COSM technology summit hosted by George Gilder has engaged hundreds of tech leaders in discussions over the limits and benefits of AI.

We have much more in store for 2020, including more articles and podcasts at Mind Matters News, new books about the limits of AI by Robert Marks and George Gilder, and another COSM conference featuring top tech leaders in the fall of 2020.
