Good afternoon friend,
Last week in his first speech as Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak promised to bring “compassion to the challenges we face today”. No one needs this more than the dying Brits forced to suffer against their wishes - they need compassionate action from the Government. They need political parties to commit to Make Time for Assisted Dying.
If you didn’t catch last week’s email, we launched a new campaign to ensure any future assisted dying bill will have time to be fully scrutinised, debated, and brought to a vote.
Momentum is with us and new MPs come on board all the time. But without guaranteed parliamentary time to take a bill through every stage, with opportunities for MPs to fully scrutinise the evidence and debate the proposals, it won’t matter if we have a clear majority. Opponents will still be able to manipulate the process and ensure it doesn’t pass.
We need this commitment to Make Time for Assisted Dying in every party manifesto to ensure our progress isn’t lost following an election. Will you ask your MP to pledge today?
In July, the then Government committed to making time for this issue if there is enough proof that MPs want to see the law changed. We now need the Government to put it in writing in their party manifesto.
Assisted dying is an issue of conscience, of care and of compassion. Together, we must make sure that Rishi Sunak is true to his word and treats dying people with the compassion they so desperately need.
Thousands of Dignity in Dying supporters have already emailed their MPs - you can amplify their voices and make sure this demand is too loud to ignore.
P.S. Political parties need to Make Time for Assisted Dying - drop your MP one quick email today and ask them to pledge their support.
