This is Chelsea Handler. You may know me from my Netflix shows or podcasts, but I’m here to talk about my other passions: fighting for abortion access, advocating for gun safety, and electing progressive champions who will actually help create a better world.
There’s something that talk shows and politics have in common: Conversation is a crucial tool for our work. That’s how you hear what’s on folks’ minds—and how you share with them what’s on yours. And that’s why all the research shows that these types of conversations are extraordinarily effective in encouraging folks to show up to the polls.
Which is what we need this year more than ever before. Midterm elections usually have low turnout, but when folks know what’s at stake, have a sense of the candidates they can vote for who's on their side, and make a plan to vote, they can and will turn out. That’s what MoveOn’s program is built around and why I am so enthusiastic for folks to join together at these effective, data-driven, and personalized voter outreach opportunities.
Will you join thousands of fellow MoveOn members in reaching tens of thousands of voters by signing up for a phone bank? You make calls from your own home, MoveOn staff and volunteers will support you every step of the way, and you can do it any Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday between now and the election.
You can talk to voters about what’s motivating you. I know I find it motivating to connect with other people who share my views on defending abortion rights or stopping gun violence. I also know the Democrats have done so much to lower drug prices, invest in our climate, and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. The only way we will find out what motivates a particular voter is by talking to them, just like a good talk show or podcast.
