Media is one of the most effective ways to sway public opinion

John,

Happy almost new year!

As we enter a new decade, I just wanted to make sure you saw one of our Giving Tuesday emails highlighting Nazeeha --- OutRight's Arabic Media Coordinator in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Why?

Because the work we do in that region is crucial to our efforts to building a network of well informed journalists and stemming the discrimination and persecution there.

And above all, support for our work there is crucial.

With detentions, arbitrary arrests, even torture and execution happening to members of our global community, OutRight needs to be prepared to pressure governments, provide security to activists, and continue each day to do the work to change hearts, minds, and laws for equality.

And changing the perception of Queer people in the media is one the best ways to do that.

See for yourself in Nazeeha's own words

Hi Friend,

Time and time again, the LGBTIQ community is denied access to basic human rights. The right to employment, the right to housing, the right to live your authentic life – all basic human rights, yet too often denied.

But what can you do to help?

As the Arabic Media coordinator for OutRight, I run Outright’s media sensitivity training program in the Middle East and North Africa, perfectly intertwining my passions for media and LGBTIQ issues. Media – love it or hate it – is one of the most effective ways to sway public opinion, and it’s the reason why this program is so important.

Your donation today means the sustainability of this innovative program tomorrow.

Donate to Reach Arabic Media Journalists »

It’s because of you and your support that we can reach out to Arabic media outlets and journalists in order to provide them with a better understanding around sexual orientation, gender identity, and LGBTIQ rights violations occurring in the Middle East and North Africa.

I can’t stress enough how critical our sensitivity program is. Our work has the potential for systemic impact in changing the perception of LGBTIQ individuals in the region.

Trans men and women still have little or no voice in the region, and there is a lot to teach the media professionals. But we can only accomplish this with your support.

With your generosity, we can make the media reporting in the Middle East and North Africa, more fair and more accurate.

But only with your help.

With warmth and gratitude,

Nazeeha

P.S. You can make a bigger impact by making a monthly gift -- it’s a fact: over the course of one year, your monthly gift will add up to more than OutRight's average one-time gift, allowing OutRight to do even more critical work with your donation.
