Let’s make our next AOT event bigger Dear John, Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) allows civil courts and mental health systems to work collaboratively to help individuals with severe mental illness caught in the revolving door of hospitalization, homelessness and incarceration. Improving understanding of and access to AOT is my goal as the director of AOT implementation at Treatment Advocacy Center. One of the best ways we do this is through hands-on learning and discussion with other practitioners, such as what we were recently able to do at our National AOT Symposium and Learning Collaborative. DONATE Our 2022 symposium brought together judges, attorneys, mental health authorities, mental health providers, hospital administrators, crisis center administrators, law enforcement officers, family members and graduates of AOT in San Antonio for two days of collaborative learning. We heard from experts, brainstormed ways to improve AOT programs and made important cross-sectoral relationships that will improve outcomes for those living with SMI and their loved ones. We believe that cost should never be a barrier and so our symposium is ALWAYS FREE to attend. We’re able to provide free admission — along with scholarships and stipends for travel and lodging — thanks to the generosity of donors like you. Our stories are powerful. When we come together at the symposium to share experiences and viewpoints, we come to a greater understanding of how to treat and care for SMI.
