Send a message to Congress
Dear John,
I hope you agree that our communities are stronger when the government invests in affordable housing, education, and health care. With costs rising, we need Congress to pass a federal budget that expands economic assistance for low-income families.
At the same time, we need to divest from abusive immigration enforcement that separates families, policing systems that dehumanize our neighbors, and practices that negatively impact our climate.
Congress is currently negotiating a spending bill that will determine where our tax dollars are spent. Please send them a message today! [link removed]
Urge your representatives in Congress to:
Pass a new comprehensive spending bill: Congress is currently relying on a short-term continuing resolution that extends last year’s funding levels. With inflation, this has translated into budget cuts for vital agencies. We need a new FY23 budget to fully fund agencies to meet human needs.
Divest from war, weapons, and corporate defense contractors: The Pentagon wastes billions of taxpayer dollars each year on weapons and war, at the expense of vital spending to meet people's basic needs and address climate change.
Support more funding to reduce rising housing costs for low-income communities: Congress must not miss the chance to move towards safe, affordable, accessible housing for all. We need to make robust investments in affordable housing and homelessness support programs.
Divest from and defund harmful immigration enforcement agencies: Each dollar appropriated to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is money that harms people in our communities and puts lives at risk. That money is better spent on critical resources that support our communities and helps us to welcome those in need.
Divest from harmful systems that target people of color for police brutality, imprisonment, and death: We need policy solutions that center on the needs of Black and Brown people who have been the most harmed by police violence. It's time to invest in communities, not policing.
Thank you for using your voice to help move money out of programs that do harm. Together, we can achieve greater economic justice in our communities.
