Heritage Experts: It’s Time for Supreme Court to End Racial Preferences in Education <[link removed]> – American colleges and universities should welcome all students who have the academic capabilities, interests, and values to perform well in their institutions. They should reject racial preferences in favor of genuine diversity—a student body admitted based on merit that has a wide range of life experiences and political and philosophical viewpoints, all of which contribute to a robust climate of free expression and academic inquiry on campus. The college admissions process should be focused on bringing the best and brightest minds to an institution, not making elite liberals feel good about their ‘racial sensitivity,’ which is all the euphemistically named ‘affirmative action’ does. Universities like Harvard and the University of North Carolina have set up racial spoils systems that discriminate against some students and benefit others based on the color of their skin. These odious admissions policies violate the basic civil rights of students and must finally be ended by the Supreme Court. Barring the door to Asian-American students today is just as wrong as barring the door to African-American students was 60 years ago. Twitter Bans Conservatives, Including Heritage Foundation Expert, One Week Before Midterm Elections <[link removed]> – Twitter suspended conservative accounts just over one week before the midterm elections, including the account of a Heritage Foundation scholar and the leader of a conservative nonprofit. Jake Denton, a research associate at Heritage’s Tech Policy Center <[link removed]>, found himself suspended on Twitter at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, ten days before the 2022 midterm elections. “Since the election of Donald Trump, Twitter has aggressively targeted and deplatformed young conservatives,” Denton told The Daily Signal on Monday. “It is no coincidence that just a week from Election Day, the leftists at Twitter executed one of the largest conservative ban-waves in the history of the platform.” (The Daily Signal is the media outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) “In the middle of the night, Twitter removed conservative political activists and ordinary Americans across the country to further silence
conservative voices,” Denton added. “Twitter’s targeting of conservative users this close to Election Day is a deliberate political action. Mass bannings have become standard practice against conservatives on Twitter, and Elon Musk needs to immediately put an end to this.” Conservatives have long raised the alarm <[link removed]> about Big Tech bias, particularly at Twitter, which has an official policy against “misgendering” and “dead-naming” people who
publicly identify as transgender. Heritage Expert: Jake Denton <[link removed]>

2 States That Should Be Able to Sue Over Biden’s Student Loan Bailout <[link removed]> – President Joe Biden’s student loan bailout is illegal <[link removed]>. That’s not a hard call, but before a court can consider the merits of Biden’s scheme, a plaintiff must have what the law refers to as “standing.” Standing is a doctrine that says that a court doesn’t have jurisdiction to hear a case unless the plaintiff has suffered a concrete injury caused by the defendant that a court has the power to fix. Six states sued to block <[link removed]> Biden’s student loan bailout, claiming that it harmed their financial interests, but a federal district court judge ruled that the states lacked standing. The states appealed, and the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stayed Biden’s bailout plan while it considers the case. The district court was wrong about some of the states, and the 8th Circuit should reverse the lower court’s decision. The states with the strongest arguments for standing are Missouri and Arkansas, because of how the student loan bailout harms their state-run loan servicers, which, in turn, harms the state. Biden Constantly Peddles Tall Tales And Corporate Media Couldn’t Care Less <[link removed]>—Those media fact-checkers who spent every waking moment labeling every utterance of
then-President Donald Trump a pants-on-fire lie must be enjoying an extended vacation. How else to explain the fact that President Joe Biden and his top officials get away with telling one falsehood after another without a peep of protest? We aren’t talking about Biden’s petty habit of embellishing his life, like saying that he was “raised in a Puerto Rican community” <[link removed]> or that his house burned down <[link removed]>. We’re talking about big issues — the economy, inflation, the border, taxes and COVID — that could affect how people understand their plight and who they blame for the mess we’re in. So, since the corporate press won’t do its job, here is a catalog of Biden’s biggest fabrications. Heritage Expert: Genevieve Wood <[link removed]>

This is not the time to abandon North Korean denuclearization <[link removed]> – I remain a strong advocate for continued diplomatic outreach to North Korea in order to lay the foundation for negotiations on North Korea’s nuclear and missile forces, as well as tension reduction and confidence-building measures. I favor a comprehensive agreement that retains denuclearization as a stated goal that would be implemented in incremental steps over a lengthy period of time. Others instead favor a series of smaller agreements, each of which hopefully leads to subsequent accords, though abandoning the goal of ever reaching the denuclearization goal line. As we continue to debate the best path forward, the biggest impediment remains North Korea’s refusal to talk and unwillingness to abide by previous commitments. We should be forward leaning in calling for dialogue and negotiations with North Korean officials, but reticent to offer concessions just to get them into the room. The United States and its allies must also protect their national security by augmenting and improving their deterrence and defense capabilities. Heritage Expert: Bruce Klingner <[link removed]>

Michigan’s Proposition 3 Is Bad News For Women. Here’s Why <[link removed]> – Michigan’s “Right to Reproductive Freedom <[link removed]>” constitutional amendment is a prime example. Dubbed Proposition 3, this amendment is scheduled for vote via ballot measure on Nov. 8, 2022. If passed, it would ensure that “every individual has a fundamental right to reproductive freedom, which entails the right to make and effectuate decisions about all matters relating to … infertility care.” Proposition 3’s does not just expand abortion on-demand for all nine months of pregnancy. It also obliterates age requirements and parental rights. Paired with its support for cross-sex hormones and sterilization surgeries <[link removed]>, it could also turn surrogacy into an absolute right. Proposition 3 amendment would secure for any “individual” (male, female, adult or minor) a right to “reproductive freedom” including “infertility care.” This suggests that a single man or a male same-sex couple has the right a woman’s body. Why? Because without a woman, no single man or male couple can naturally create, carry, or birth a child. If passed, Proposition 3 would preempt the nearly 70 state laws that address abortion, contraception, sterilization surgeries, cross-sex hormones, and commercial surrogacy (surrogacy for money). Today’s Marxist leftists want to keep minorities trapped in perpetual victimhood <[link removed]> – It was around this time that activists intimidated <[link removed]> an initially reluctant bureaucracy into creating
a separate Hispanic category, which finally it did in 1977. Since then, millions of dollars have been spent on grievance-stoking with this group. A lot of it has been taxpayer money. A new “Latino exhibit” at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, for example, presents a uniquely Marxist view of reality, portraying Latinos as an oppressed people engaged in a struggle against white supremacy. Worse still, the disgraceful exhibition is a harbinger of a new National Museum of the American Latino, which some well-intentioned Republicans were hoodwinked into helping to create. Conservatives must obviously realize what time it is. They can no longer contribute to the dismantling of society by supporting such dangerous projects. In fact, they must actively work to eliminate them. They can start by voting to defund this monstrosity of a museum. The Latino museum’s backers got approximately $8.3 million for fiscal 2022, and now, they’re back requesting <[link removed]> an increase of $2 million, or $10.4
million in total, in the fiscal 2023 government funding bill, which will be voted on in December. Conservatives must insist on taking out this line. Heritage Expert: Mike Gonzalez <[link removed]>

As Montpelier Goes Woke, Will Virginians Rescue James Madison From Cancellation? <[link removed]> -  In 2020, Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources gave $1,000,000 to the County of Orange <[link removed]> for programming at Montpelier. Montpelier’s website states <[link removed]> that the funding was for a memorialization project, which would include a memorial to enslaved people and the development of anti-racist curricula for use in Virginia
public schools. No such memorial <[link removed]> has yet been built. Montpelier’s memorialization project now seems to encompass the Arc of the Enslaved Communities <[link removed]>. According to the Washington Examiner’s Quin Hillyer <[link removed]>, the original objective of that arc was to have the “whole area from Montpelier to Monticello declared a UNESCO World Heritage site,” <[link removed]> all 850 square acres <[link removed]>, and recognized as home to one of the “highest concentrations of enslaved Americans during the formative years of the United States.” The arc was
conceived by the Montpelier Descendants Committee (MDC) and funded by the National Trust. The U.S. has a fraught relationship <[link removed]> with UNESCO and is currently not a member. In 1983, the U.S. left UNESCO; President Reagan’s administration stated that UNESCO <[link removed]> “extraneously politicized virtually every subject it deals with. It has exhibited hostility toward a free society, especially a free market and a free press.” Some contended that UNESCO downgrading Yellowstone National Park because of plans to open a gold mine in the area was an attempt to undermine America’s <[link removed]> “rights to govern itself and to destroy the fabric of US sovereignty.” Heritage Expert: Brenda Hafera <[link removed]>

The Silent Majority Opposes Transgender Activism in Schools, Supports Parents’ Rights <[link removed]> – Americans are waking up to the threat of transgender activism in schools <[link removed]>. While President Joe Biden tries to tie school lunch money <[link removed]> to transgender policies and California Gov. Gavin Newsom threatens to remove kids from their parents if the parents refuse to treat their boys like girls or vice versa, Americans know that schools should not indoctrinate kids with the noxious idea that biology means nothing. Many on the Left support transgender lessons in school, oppose any idea of parental opt-outs <[link removed]>, and vocally push unfettered childhood access to “treatments” that will leave kids stunted, scarred, and infertile. Yet new polling suggests that vast majorities of registered voters—in both parties—oppose transgender lessons in school and support parents’ rights to opt their kids out of any such lessons. Many also oppose transgender “treatments” for kids. A whopping 72% of registered voters <[link removed]> said schools should not teach children that they can change their gender, while 62% said that “it is never appropriate” for schools to teach kids
that they can change their gender, according to an RMG Research poll commissioned by America’s New Majority Project and provided to The Daily Signal. Heritage Expert: Tyler O’Neil <[link removed]>

House-Passed ‘Right to Contraception’ Bill Creates Problems, Doesn’t Solve Them <[link removed]> – The Left has pushed a radical pro-abortion agenda across the country ever since the Supreme Court’s June 24 decision to correct <[link removed]> a grave error by overturning Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand. In the states, the Left has responded to the high court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization by promoting taxpayer-funded abortion “tourism <[link removed]>,” flouting state abortion laws, and seeking  to enshrine <[link removed]> so-called abortion rights in state constitutions. At the federal level, the Biden administration announced executive <[link removed]> actions to promote abortion and abortion travel <[link removed]>, particularly under the guise of enforcing federal laws related to patient privacy, and to provide emergency medical care. President Joe Biden harnessed the administrative state, for instance, to make the Defense Department <[link removed]> and the Veterans Administration ignore decades of federal policy and pay for abortions with taxpayer dollars.
