Elon Musk Dissolves Twitter’s Board of Directors
Wall Street Journal: The board that oversaw Twitter Inc. during its tumultuous sale to Elon Musk has been dissolved, with the Tesla Inc. chief now serving as the social-media company’s sole director. Twitter said in a securities filing Monday that the nine members of its former board are no longer directors as of the consummation of the $44 billion merger. Mr. Musk always intended to take over as sole director under the terms of the merger agreement, according to the filing ( Wall Street Journal).

Supreme Court Heard Arguments Regarding Affirmative Action in College Admissions
Spencer Brown: As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Monday in two cases dealing with racial preferences used by elite universities for their admissions processes, conservatives praised the Court for taking the cases and called for an end to the “affirmative action” — a feel-good term used to cover for the underlying use of racism to determines a student’s value — policies that have harmed students for years ( Spencer Brown). Wall Street Journal: The Justices are considering challenges to the admission practices of Harvard and the University of North Carolina, in particular that they discriminate illegally against Asian-Americans in favor of other races ( Wall Street Journal). Nikki Haley: Picking winners and losers based on race isn’t just wrong, it’s un-American. Clearly, liberal colleges didn’t get that memo. It’s time to end these racist practices so that every student can have an equal opportunity to achieve the best life ( Twitter). Sen. Tom Cotton: John Roberts said it best: the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. It’s past time to end the discriminatory practice of affirmative action ( Twitter).

Democrat’s Chance of Winning Midterms Quickly Evaporating
Bloomberg: Democrats’ prospects for holding onto Congress are fading a week before the US election as voters focus on economic concerns rather than the rollback of abortion rights, bolstering Republicans who have made inflation a central issue in the race. Inflation is still high and a recession is a near certainty. Gasoline prices dipped but remain costlier than average and Democratic and independent outrage over abortion rights isn’t strong enough to overshadow that ( Bloomberg). Hill: Based on current trends, Republicans will likely gain between 30 to 35 House seats, and come away with a one or two-seat advantage in the Senate. This outcome would flip both chambers of Congress to GOP control, but wouldn’t necessarily rise to 1994 or 2010 levels, when Democrats lost 53 and 63 House seats, respectively ( Hill).

Herschel Walker and Senator Warnock are Locked in a Tie Just Before the Midterm Election
Fox News: Herschel Walker and Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., are locked in a tie as they enter the final week of campaigning before the midterm elections, according to a Monday poll. The poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has Walker holding at 46% and Warnock at 45% ( Fox News). Herschel Walker: I think we can get Senator Warnock out of that office. I think he’s shown that he don’t deserve to be there. After two short years, everybody see that we got this high inflation, we got this border wide open. We got men in women’s sports. He’s raised our taxes. There are so many things that he’s done that he don’t deserve that seat from the great people of Georgia ( Daybreak Daily).

Stacey Abrams Reveals What She Really Thinks of Police Officers
National Review: Stacey Abrams, the Democratic nominee for governor in Georgia, declared during a debate with Kemp on Sunday night that 107 sheriffs had endorsed her opponent, incumbent Republican Brian Kemp, because they “want to be able to take black people off the streets.” The governor has characterized calls for defunding the police as “simply an insane idea.” Abrams has denied that she supports defunding law enforcement, but she serves as a leader in multiple organizations that do ( National Review). GOP Comms Director Jesse Hunt: Disgusting… “defund the police” Stacey Abrams think very little of law enforcement in GA @BrianKempGA proudly touts the support of 107 GA sheriffs & Abrams claims it’s because of race “So no I don’t have 107 sheriffs who want to be able to take black people of the streets” ( Twitter).

DHS Quietly Attempting to Censor Speech on Tech Platforms
Intercept: The Department of Homeland Security is quietly broadening its efforts to curb speech it considers dangerous, an investigation by The Intercept has found. Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public documents — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms ( Intercept). Ed Morrissey: The breadth of the issues on which they planned to intervene — and may already be intervening — is breathtaking. “Racial justice” covers an awful lot of ground, especially given progressives’ impulse to claim that every issue has an element of “racial justice” to it ( HotAir). Matt Walsh: This is why the Left is freaking out about Musk taking over Twitter. They know that the government has been using Big Tech platforms to illegally censor speech. Now it’s all coming out into the open. This is what they didn’t want you to see ( Twitter).

CBS Host Upset Republicans Run Campaign Ads Before Midterms After Paul Pelosi’s Attack
Fox News: In the wake of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband being assaulted in their home, Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., called out the hypocrisy of a CBS News host trying to blame Republican rhetoric for encouraging violence ( Fox News). Washington Examiner: Establishment media are panicking as they are on the verge of losing their beloved Democratic congressional majorities. Now, they are demanding that Republicans stop criticizing Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The arbiters of truth in our media have decided that the attack on Paul Pelosi in his home was somehow directly the result of Republican rhetoric rather than an attack by a man who “has been mentally ill for a long time” and “went off his rocker” because of drug use ( Washington Examiner). Bonchie: CBS News anchor loses her mind because the GOP is running political ads 9 days before a mid-term ( Twitter).

Biden Accuses Oil Industry of War Profiteering, Threatens Additional Taxes on Companies
CNBC: President Joe Biden threatened Monday to pursue higher taxes on oil company profits if industry giants do not work to cut gas prices. Biden has criticized oil companies that have made record-high profits as consumers struggle to keep up with high gas prices. The price of a gallon of gas was $3.76 on Monday, down from a record of over $5 in June but still higher than a year ago. “Their profits are a windfall of war,” Biden said, referring to Russia’s war in Ukraine. “It’s time for these companies to stop their war profiteering” ( CNBC).

Russia Pulls Out of Wheat Deal with Ukraine, Looks to Inspect Ships Leaving Ukraine Ports
Hill: Wheat prices shot up on global commodity markets after Russia pulled out of a deal to keep grain exports moving out of Ukrainian ports, exacerbating concerns that the move by Moscow could worsen global food shortages. Soft red wheat futures jumped 7 percent from Friday to Monday, while contracts for hard red wheat rose 6 percent. Moscow’s move adds more pressure to international grain prices that are already up 11.2 percent since last year ( Hill). Wall Street Journal: Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said Russia’s navy would, if necessary, conduct inspections of ships that did get its permission to depart Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense said any movement of ships along a previously designated grain corridor was unacceptable, citing security concerns ( Wall Street Journal).
