Happy Halloween! Like many of you, Halloween is a big day in our household. Now that Jack and Katie are teenagers, I miss seeing them get dressed up and roam the neighborhood. But I still enjoy passing out candy to the neighborhood kids and watching scary movies.
What I find
really scary is that I can no longer assume that Jack and Katie will always live in a democracy.
That’s why I promise to do everything in my power to defend free, transparent, and fair elections.
A key threat to our democracy comes from a dangerous idea called “independent state legislature theory.”
Taken to its extreme, lawmakers would have unchecked power to overrule the will of the people. It could destabilize elections nationwide and jeopardize democracy as we understand it.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case about this anti-democratic theory that could have grave consequences for our democracy. Last week, I filed a brief defending our democratic process.
Haunted houses and scary movies don’t scare me (much!), but these very real threats to our democracy are terrifying.
If you stand with me in my efforts to protect our democracy, will you rush a $10 contribution today?
Thank you,
Bob
