Bolsonaro Defeated in Brazil

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro narrowly lost the presidential election to his leftist challenger, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, on Sunday, and the far-right leader has not commented publicly since election results were announced—worrying Brazilians that he may not accept defeat, as the NYT reports.

Russia Targets Infrastructure

Russian forces launched a wave of missile strikes across Ukraine on Monday that knocked out electricity and water supplies in Kyiv and other cities, just as the country was recovering from the damage inflicted in the Kremlin’s recent attacks on civilian infrastructure, as the ​WSJ reports.

Biden Urges Congress to Tax Oil Companies’ Profits

President Biden will urge Congress to punish oil companies with higher taxes unless they increase output to bring down prices at the pump, as the FT reports.
