When I was in middle school, we were locked down on what we believed was an active shooter. The fear was intense...teachers were calling their spouses and children to say goodbye. Now I think: what if the teacher had a loaded gun? A loaded gun in the room would have only heightened this fear and increased the risk of someone getting accidentally shot.” Zoe Nichols, NCGV Board Member.

John --

Can you believe that some NC legislators want K-12 educators to be armed? It is true. Three bills were introduced in 2019 that would do just that.

One bill, S192, would even give teachers a raise for being armed! Any teacher that carried a concealed gun at school would get a 5% salary supplement. Teachers carrying concealed would be anonymous and would be allowed to arrest people. These are educators and not law enforcement.

With your support, we stopped this bill from ever coming up for a vote! Donate today so that in 2020 we can continue to fight dangerous bills that would arm educators. <[link removed]>

We have spoken to hundreds of educators, and not one has said they want to be armed. In fact, many have said they would quit rather than work in a school where anyone outside law enforcement was armed.

We stand with the 78% of teachers that don’t want teachers to be armed.
