Friends,
Across the country, you and I and thousands of committed Americans are doing everything we can to protect our democratic freedoms: knocking on doors, sending last-minute contributions and speaking with voters.
And then there’s AIPAC.
This month -- as leaders in our community have spoken out about dangerous right-wing extremism in both the United States and Israel -- AIPAC maintained radio silence.
Silent on Trump’s threat that Jews should praise him for being pro-Israel “before it’s too late.” Silent on the alarming rise of the extremist “Jewish Power” party in Israel.
In a moment when the stakes for democracy couldn’t be higher -- and the danger from growing antisemitism couldn’t be greater -- here’s what AIPAC is up to:
- Their Super PAC just announced a five-figure ad buy to support an anti-choice Republican in a pivotal Pennsylvania House race against principled progressive Democrat Summer Lee. It’s a race that could help decide if Congress keeps a pro-democracy majority, or comes under control of pro-Trump leaders who voted with insurrectionists on January 6.
- Their “United Democracy Project'' Super PAC hasn’t spent a penny of its $25 million war chest to defeat anti-democratic candidates. They’ve trained their fire solely on progressive Democrats, and have directed over $1 million through their PAC to pro-insurrectionist endorsees.
- They haven’t said a word about Congressman Clay Higgins, one of their 109 election-denying endorsees, who tweeted an appalling conspiracy theory about the brutal attack that left Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul hospitalized.
Poll after poll shows that threats to our community and threats to our democratic freedoms are top issues for American Jews.
The vast majority of Jewish Americans want leadership that will stand up to extremists and support a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
At J Street, we’re proud to represent that voice -- your voice -- in Washington. Proud to stand up for our values. Proud to be pushing back against AIPAC’s narrow vision of what it means to be “pro-Israel.”
We’ll continue to fight back against antisemitism and hatred wherever we find it; continue our work to defeat antidemocratic politicians; and continue to chart a course for principled, values-driven leadership toward a future of equality, self-determination and peace for all Israelis and Palestinians.
If that mission speaks to you, please consider a contribution to support our work to defeat anti-democratic candidates and fix the broken politics of Israel-Palestine in our country. We don’t have right-wing billionaires funding our work, so we’re counting on thousands of committed grassroots supporters like you >>
Thank you, sincerely, for your support.
Jeremy Ben-Ami
President, J Street
