Dear Friend,
We’re eight days away from the final day to vote in this critical midterm election. Just in time for the last stretch of the campaign, Progressive Maryland has released a toolkit for voters. Click here to check it out and share with your family and friends, especially those who have not yet voted. We need to show up and show our power this November!
We’ve got good reasons to vote: - There are great progressive candidates on the ballot who will work for policies that benefit everyday Marylanders. Here are some of the folks who are running.
- We can change our failed marijuana policies by voting FOR Question 4 to legalize possession of small quantities of cannabis. Passing the measure means Maryland will join several other states who have modernized cannabis laws.
In order to win we’ve got to keep reaching out to voters! We want to be sure they know about candidates up and down the ballot as well as Ballot Question 4. Take a minute now to sign up for a two hour shift. It’s fun and it makes a difference.

Task Forces & Issue Campaigns Updates: |
Healthcare For All:
We’re getting ready for the state legislative session which starts on January 11. We’re examining opportunities to work on lowering Rx prices at the state level, continuing our work on the End Medical Debt campaign, and pushing for the healthcare services our communities need. We’ll be participating in the national summit on healthcare organizing that People’s Action is holding after the election. We need more folks in this fight, to learn more contact Patty.
Campaign For Justice and Ending the War on Drugs:
Justice is on the ballot this year! Our Task Forces remind all Marylanders of the importance of voting in favor of Question 4 to legalize cannabis. Punitive marijuana laws fueled mass incarceration and widespread racist policing practices. Legalization has many benefits, including redirecting public resources spent on pot arrests to community needs and social services. If you’re interested in joining our efforts, please contact Kurt or Dev. Returning Citizens Task Force:
Based on our conversations at recent October community events, our team believes that the most important need facing people after their release from prison is housing -- both transitional housing and long term affordable permanent housing. We’ll discuss this and other issues at our next meeting taking place on Zoom from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 8. Check with Kurt in advance of the meeting, we may reschedule since Nov. 8 is Election Day.

Lower Shore Progressive Caucus LSPC is door knocking every day to get the word out about some wonderful progressive candidates. Help us get out the vote on the Shore: contact Kris.

We need MoCo supporters and residents to vote in the important Board of Education races. Of special note is community leader Grace Rivera-Oven, a candidate for School Board, District 1. Progressive Maryland has endorsed her and she has the support of the unions that represent teachers, school staff, and many Democratic clubs in the County. Grace is on the ballot across the County. Learn more about her vision and values at her website here Progressive Prince George’s Zoning Bill Update: Victory! Thanks to grassroots organizing and a public outcry CB 92 was pulled from Council consideration last week. Want to get involved? Simply Fill out this form. Our Chapter is working on a number of important local issues and initiatives. |
State and National News:
A past contract for a vendor to oversee mental health and behavioral care in the state doesn't seem to be working out, and a contract for BWI concessions soon to be up for approval by outgoing officials is looking "rigged" according to some. Plus election news, state life expectancy, schools and their resource officers, and allegations of internal bias in state police ranks. It's all here and more in News You Can Use. Get the details on all these pressing topics in News You Can Use, our blog of Maryland and national progressive concerns. If you need an incentive to vote progressive, look no further.
