Hi, it’s Governor JB Pritzker. In my time as the Governor of Illinois, my state has become a leader in securing access to safe, legal abortion care thanks to our strong Democratic majorities in the state legislature. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together – reproductive rights are enshrined into our state law because, here in Illinois, we trust women to make their own health care decisions.

Across the country, Democrats are using their state legislative majorities to usher in transformative progress – passing legislation to defend abortion access, protect our democracy, and make our communities safer. Meanwhile, in GOP-controlled states, extremists are abusing their majorities to chip away at our most basic rights and freedoms through dangerous abortion bans, voter suppression bills, and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. The contrast is clear – Democrats are working to better the lives of their constituents, while Republicans are hell-bent on controlling them.

Republicans are sending us down a dangerous path that puts our democracy at risk. But right now, we have a chance to halt this downward trajectory – to repair the damage that right-wing extremists are doing to our democratic institutions and secure a more progressive future by building our Democratic power at the state level.
