As a civil rights activist, a key part of Democratic leadership in the House, and the highest-ranking Black Democrat in Congress, Jim has dedicated his life and work to putting America’s greatness within reach for all South Carolinians -- no matter what their zip code is.
Jim helped pass the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure deal to get those bills to President Biden’s desk. Not to mention advancing legislation to protect voting rights, the integrity of our elections, and our democracy against MAGA extremists’ threats.
More recently, Jim worked hard to get the Inflation Reduction Act over the finish line. It’s the biggest action on climate change in American history and will lower prescription drug costs for seniors and includes steps to reduce inflation.
Jim wants to continue delivering for us in Congress, but the midterms are almost always tough for the party that occupies the White House. On average, the party in power loses 25 House seats in the midterm elections, and this year, five House seats are all that stand between Republicans and control of the Majority.
