HeartTalks: Why Sleep Matters for Your Heart Health
Research in recent years has taught us so much about how sleep impacts our health. Earlier this year, sleep was added to the American Heart Association’s construct of cardiovascular health, amending it from Life’s Simple Seven to Life’s Essential Eight. WomenHeart hosted a HeartTalks webinar this month about the impact of sleep on heart health and how to manage sleep while living with heart disease. Sleep expert and clinical psychologist Dr. Michael Grandner and cardiologist Dr. Courtney Jordan Baechler, along with WomenHeart Champion Lori Wood, shared their expertise and experiences. Blog on Health Inequities
WomenHeart’s latest blog ([link removed] shares information about inequities in health outcomes for women of color by describing some of the ways in which they experience health care. Whether it relates to pregnancy and child birth, access to insurance, prevalence of heart disease and diabetes, and more, race and gender play a big role in access to timely, quality health care and, thus, to health outcomes. By identifying some of the causes of such disparities, we can work intentionally to address them.
Welcome New WomenHeart Champions!
Earlier this month we officially welcomed a new class of WomenHeart Champions. Following three days of training with WomenHeart and Mayo Clinic faculty, WomenHeart graduated 29 Science & Leadership Symposium attendees from 19 different states, ranging in age from 30 to 76 years old. We were energized by these inspiring women as they shared their reasons for attending the symposium and made plans to educate, advocate, and support the women in their communities. Hear more from WomenHeart staff ([link removed] Bohrt and Amy Friedrich-Karnik as they provide a recap of the weekend.
Consider WomenHeart for Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday – five days after Thanksgiving – provides a wonderful opportunity to practice generosity and make contributions to your charities of choice. We hope WomenHeart is on your list. Our commitment to supporting women with heart disease, to educating women who have risk factors, and to fighting for equity in heart health has never been stronger. We see our impact everyday in the stories women tell about the importance of peer support in their journeys; as our collaborations yield new resources and educational materials; and as our Champions become advocates for systemic change. Your donations make that work possible. We are grateful to all our supporters.  Donate NowVisit Our Website
