Happy Halloween From Atlanta DSA!

📕 ATLDSA Book Club: Class Struggle Unionism 📕

Atlanta DSA's Book Club is starting a new book: Class Struggle Unionism by Joe Burns! We'll start THIS THURSDAY Nov. 3 at 7PM on Zoom and meet every other Thursday.

DSA faces a lot of questions on how to rebuild the labor movement. How do we relate to the union establishment which often does not want to fight? Should we work in the rank and file of unions or take staff jobs? And most critically, how can we revive militancy and union power in the face of corporate power and a legal system set up against us? Join us in the coming weeks to discuss these issues and more! You can get a copy of the book for $2 from Haymarket Books.

If you haven't been able to make a meeting yet, now is a great time to jump in! For more information, email [email protected].

We'll follow this schedule:

Nov 3: Introduction, Chapters 1-2
Nov 17: Chapters 3-4
Dec 1: Chapters 5-6
Dec 15: Chapters 6-7, Conclusion

🚆 Solidarity With Railroad Workers 🚆

Graphic used to promote the Atlanta DSA General Meeting on October 22th at 4 PM

Railroad workers are currently engaged in one of the most important struggles in recent labor history, in an industry that is at the heart of the functioning of society. The rail industry has seen massive deregulation, lean production, and persistent undermining of working conditions that have made the work all but intolerable.

Come hear Railroad Workers United members speak Tuesday, November 1, 8:00 PM--9:30 PM EDT about their struggle, the situation on the rails, and how you can get involved in efforts to support them. The success of this campaign is of urgent importance, and solidarity must be built.

🌹 Make a Plan to Early Vote 🌹

The stakes of the November 2022 elections are high, and the outcome could jeopardize the rights and livelihoods of working people across the state and country. The GOP is an anti-worker, anti-Black, anti-woman, anti-immigrant, anti-queer reactionary force which aims to dismantle abortion, voting, and other fundamental rights for working people with the goal of generating power and profits for the billionaire elite. For this reason we encourage our members, supporters and the public to vote in this year’s elections to defeat the Republican Party and their far-right agenda.

✏️Georgia Voters Take a High-Stakes Test✏️

Elections are underway in Georgia. While Senator Warnock fights to represent Georgia in Congress and hundreds of state legislators wait for polls to close on November 8th, voters are also choosing between candidates for statewide executive offices like Governor, Attorney General, and Labor Commissioner. One race, however, demands special attention.

Alisha Thomas Searcy is the Democratic nominee for State Schools Superintendent. But you might not know it, because she’s been left off of the Democrats’ “One Georgia” slate and campaign literature. She’s even made public posts on social media complaining about the other Democratic nominees. Beyond intra-party politics, teachers’ organizations like the Georgia Association of Educators have even endorsed her Republican opponent over her. So what’s going on with Ms. Searcy?
