Autism Speaks launches predoctoral fellowship grant for autistic scientists

As part of our mission to be a catalyst for life-enhancing research breakthroughs, Autism Speaks is proud to announce our new Predoctoral Fellowship Program for Autistic Scientists. Through this fellowship program, we hope to increase autistic representation in the field of autism research and empower a greater number of autistic scientists to pursue long-lasting research careers. Autism Speaks awards over $550,000 for autism research

Autism Speaks announced $555,850 in grant funding to five researchers studying autism. This year’s awards include two predoctoral and three postdoctoral fellowships granted to doctoral students or recent doctoral graduates studying autism. Fellowship projects will focus on motor delays, sensory challenges, ASD-linked genetic variants and interventions, and loneliness in autistic adults. The chosen projects represent a range of research studies, all sharing the goal of improving the lives of children and adults on the spectrum. Learn more.

Increasing early childhood screening and timely interventions

The Autism Care Network publishes its 2021 Annual Report

Made up of 25 academic institutions and children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, the Autism Speaks-supported Autism Care Network connects families, researchers and healthcare teams to continuously improve person- and family-centered autism care. By advancing research developments and clinical knowledge about ASD, the Network enables more personalized care and better quality of life for autistic people and their families. Improving the transition to adulthood

Family ECHO: Autism gives families the opportunity to learn and grow

From navigating a new diagnosis to planning for the future, parents and caregivers of children with autism need knowledge and support in order to provide the best care to their loved ones. But often, that information can be difficult to access. Family ECHO: Autism is here to help with a FREE virtual learning program that brings clinical professionals and subject matter experts right to your screen. Supported by Autism Speaks and the Autism Care Network, the program has so far offered sessions on autism waitlists, managing anxiety and irritability and severe behavior. Learn more.

Ensuring access to reliable information and services throughout the lifespan

Autism Speaks expands access to resources in Spanish

Autism Speaks provides direct support to over 2,000 Spanish-speaking constituents a year. In response to their needs, we are continuously building a library of Spanish-language resources on everything from navigating an initial autism diagnosis to accessing resources and supports. Last month, we added a financial resources page to help people with autism and their families deal with the additional expenses that often arise with an autism diagnosis. These resources were downloaded more than 25,000 times throughout the year. We also launched a Spanish-language feature in our homepage Live Chat and introduced [email protected] to directly connect our Spanish-speaking constituents with our Spanish-speaking Autism Response Team associates.
