Friend, 95% of Americans have PFAS in their bloodstream. |
PFAS are a category of chemicals that are linked to cancers, birth defects, and reduced immunity to infectious diseases like COVID-19. They are known as "forever chemicals" because they do not break down in the environment or our bodies. |
But for decades, deep-pocketed manufacturing companies have lobbied Congress and hired armies of lawyers so they could keep manufacturing PFAS and releasing it into the environment without consequences. |
Earthjustice is fighting back with lawsuits, lobbying, and an advocacy campaign backed by thousands of supporters. We’ve made signficant progress, but we need your support to take on predatory PFAS polluters and win this battle for good. |
We’re hours away from our end-of-month deadline, so please make a $25, $50, or higher contribution before midnight to help us reach our October fundraising goal. |

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are everywhere: food packaging, make-up, floss, stain-resistant rugs and furniture, nonstick cookware, and more. But the most harmful exposure comes from water supplies contaminated by manufacturing plants and irresponsible disposal of firefighting foam. |
In the last two years, Earthjustice has done critical work to reduce PFAS pollution. |
- We sued the Department of Defense to stop it from incinerating obsolete firefighting foam that contains high quantities of PFAS.
- We filed a rulemaking petition to force the EPA to close the loopholes that allow half of all PFAS to enter the market. Then we filed another petition to revoke approval for PFAS that have already gotten through those loopholes. If the EPA does not respond in a reasonable timeframe, we can take it to court.
- We are in court defending the EPA's stringent drinking water health advisory levels for two of the most toxic PFAS after the chemical industry challenged those health advisories.
- We sued the EPA to close illegal loopholes that let chemical plants and military bases across the United States avoid disclosing their PFAS emissions into the environment.
- We are leading the charge to add all PFAS chemicals to the “Superfund list” and force polluters to pay for clean-up in communities most affected by PFAS.
|
The EPA has made several moves in the right direction, but it has left loopholes in place that it must close to protect our communities from PFAS’ harmful effects. |
And worse, profiteering corporations are continually lobbying to open more loopholes and pollute with impunity. We can succeed only with a people-powered movement behind us. |
Our end-of-month fundraising deadline is rapidly approaching, so please consider donating today. Your support is critical to protect our planet and our communities. |
