We fund voter protection John, Earlier this week, my team emailed you about some staggering statistics on voter suppression in Texas. See below for more details, but the topline was this: In Texas’ March primary, new voter suppression laws left nonwhite voters at least 30 percent more likely to have an application or mail ballot rejected than white voters. It’s shocking, it’s racist, and it’s downright undemocratic. We have just over a week to ensure voters are protected in the November 8 midterm elections, so we’re running out of time to make a difference this year. But it’s not too late. We’ve set a goal of raising $10,000 by midnight tomorrow to fund our final push for voter protection, and we’re counting on you to help us get there. Thank you for taking action, Kim Allen
We’ve got to fight for these voters, John. New analysis from the Brennan Center for Justice finds that because of Texas' voter suppression law, “nonwhite voters” in the March primary were “at least 30 percent more likely to have an application or mail ballot rejected than white voters.” [Donate to END this kind of voter suppression →] Of these ballot rejections, the overwhelming majority were due to the new ID number requirements imposed by S.B. 1. Importantly, this analysis shows that Latino, Asian, and Black voters were significantly more likely to have their mail ballot applications rejected than white voters. What’s more, even when voters successfully applied to vote by mail, voters of color were far more likely to have their mail ballots rejected. Altogether, this left nonwhite voters at least 30 percent more likely to have an application or mail ballot rejected than white voters. At Power the Vote, we are, very truly, fighting for these voters. We are funding voter protection staff who are working on the ground in Texas to help these voters cast their ballots. But we can’t do it without your support. So right now, we’re kicking off our final end-of-month fundraising deadline before the November 8 midterm elections. This goal is absolutely critical because it will fund our final efforts to protect voting rights in this year’s elections.
Thank you for your support, Power the Vote
