The United States used to be home to a thriving optical frame manufacturing industry. During the late 20th century, frame production moved offshore. As a result, 95% of the frames sold in the United States are imported.

We decided to change that.

American Sun & Reader Co. was created by a group of experienced eyewear professionals with a common goal: to ethically create the highest quality sunglasses and readers possible.

Three images of the manufacturing process for eyeglasses.

Unlike other eyewear companies who rely on importing frames from China, we manufacture our frames and cut our lenses all under one roof in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Manufacturing glasses in America was more than just buying the right equipment. It was about building a team, controlling quality and revitalizing the U.S. optical industry.

When you buy our products, you’re not just supporting American Sun & Reader Co., you’re also supporting American manufacturing, ethical production and a group of local artisans. A lot goes into our frames — hard work and a passion for well-made eyewear.

American Sun & Reader Co. is American-made eyewear for everyday elegance.

Two framed image. The left image pictures a women standing outside of a coffee shop wearing sunglasses. Second frame contains an image of a man and a woman wearing readers.
