John,
Just like a marathon, the last little bit takes the most grit, but yields the greatest reward.
I’m writing to you from the airport in Las Vegas after a long weekend of knocking doors with fellow Union volunteers all over Clark County, Nevada. After months of building teams, lining up partners, nailing down processes, and helping create this amazing organization, it all, very simply, comes down to this.
A few of the volunteers who came out this weekend had never canvassed before and were visibly nervous at the prospect of talking to strangers about this election. It takes some courage to get out there and put yourself on the line for what you believe.
But one after another, they stepped up, rang the first doorbell or knocked their first door. And they knew.
Once you talk to that first voter, you’ll know, too.
Talking to other voters about what you believe will cut through the hateful screaming on social media. It will cut through the outrage factory cable news blather and allow you to connect sincerely and meaningfully with others who are just trying to do right by their family, their friends, their community and their country.
If you can connect with them honestly and let them know what’s at stake this election, it will absolutely move the needle. It’s the only thing that really does.
This is the easiest way to get involved today. Our partner, Activate America, is running a phonebank to battleground states from now until election day. You can call using their website or app, so your phone number never shows up to the people you’re calling.
I hope you take that step. After an intense weekend of knocking on over 350 doors with Union volunteers, I feel more energized, more empowered, and more optimistic about this election than I ever have.
This is the work we need to do. We have eight days to do it.
Together,
Jacqueline Westman
