Dear John,

October marks the five-year anniversary of Labour coming to power, and everyday Kiwis are frustrated at the Government’s lack of delivery. Labour must be held to account for its lack of action - the tired old Labour formula of good intentions, endless working groups, and big spending has failed. National has launched a campaign to let you have your thoughts heard – vote below and send them a message!

Christopher Luxon's visit to Selwyn

This month I hosted National leader Christopher Luxon in Selwyn to meet with a range of groups and organisations working in the business, agri-tech and social services sectors.

This visit included seeing the world-leading innovations coming out of Lincoln Agritech, speaking to business owners from the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, talking with Selwyn Safer Families about the need for social services in the region and, finally, answering your questions at a public meeting in Rolleston. I was thrilled to be able to show our fabulous community off to him!

Breast Cancer Policy

Earlier in October, Christopher Luxon and I announced that the next National Government will extend free breast cancer screening for those aged up to 74 years old.

Breast cancer affects one in nine Kiwi women. The current breast screening age in New Zealand is up to 69 years, which lags five years behind other countries such as Australia, Canada and the US, who all screen up to 74 years.

Around 80 per cent of women who die from breast cancer are aged 50 years or older and making this one change could help save up to 65 lives per year.

One of the most pressing concerns I hear from women across the country are the real – and worsening – inequities in their healthcare. Supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, and other women’s health advocates also promoting this important initiative, is a top priority for National.

Ellesmere A&P Show

For the first time since 2019, the Ellesmere A & P was back in action - and Selwyn turned out in force with a 10,000 strong crowd!

A huge congratulations to David Birkett and the committee for all the time and effort in planning such a great event - and to the many exhibitors for their passion and commitment. I’m looking forward to all of the upcoming shows and fetes – details further in the newsletter.

HWEN Debate

Much has been said about the Government’s response to the He Waka Eke Noa proposal to price agricultural emissions – and during Parliament’s General Debate this month I took my turn to have my say on behalf of the farmers up and down New Zealand who, once again, feel betrayed by the Labour Party.

We won’t support an unaffordable system which leads to wholesale losses of jobs - and we will not support a system that sends production to overseas farms that are less carbon efficient. We will work WITH farmers, not against them. Watch my speech below <[link removed]>.

Response to Connectivity Letters

As we all know, mobile connectivity around the region is terrible and getting worse. I recently wrote to the tel-co companies, and the Minister to raise these concerns again - watch below to hear their responses 👇
