I just got done early voting in Snow Hill, and I was proud to cast my ballot today with my family beside me. They mean the world to me.

When I first decided to run for Congress, I turned to my family. My wife, Yuvonka Batts Davis, and I have been married for 20 years. She's a mom of three incredible boys – Ryan, Justin, and Kyler. We have raised them to be respectful, polite, and service-oriented.

While I have served in elected office for nearly 20 years, this lifestyle is all my kids have known, and they have yet to let us down. So many, including our youngest, who lobbied me for pay raises for his teachers, encouraged me to run for Congress.

When I asked my youngest if I should run, he gave me a thumbs-up. He said, "For years, you have worked hard for our part of the state. Why not? You would do great."

My family has called North Carolina home for six generations. I want to ensure my children and their friends can stay here – raise their families, make a decent living, and live long, healthy lives. I’m running because the East is my home, and we need leaders ready to deliver on the critical needs of our rural communities. We must get our fair share!
