THE HAPPENINGS IN CONGRESS Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus Endorses the VA Zero Suicide Demonstration Project Act Every day in America, we lose seventeen veterans to suicide - and that's seventeen too many. As a veteran, I know firsthand that not all of our injuries are physical. That's why I am honored to receive the Problem Solvers Caucus' endorsement for the VA Zero Suicide Demonstration Act, which works to build on VA suicide prevention efforts and improves the way our VA system approaches mental health. In addition to this endorsement, I am pleased this legislation was passed by the House Veterans Affairs Committee. I will continue to sustain momentum for House passage before the end of this year. SPENDING TIME IN TX-23 Toured the Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan’s Wonderland This week I had the pleasure of touring the Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. This incredible organization works hard to help the special needs community access healthcare services and specialized support. I am looking forward to supporting their mission through my work in Congress. Visited Grassfield Farms I met with the owner and staff of Grassfield Farms to learn about their operations in Hondo. This family has been farming in Medina County since the 1800’s, selling beef, pasture-raised pork, and free range eggs. The ranching and farming industry is vital in our district. That's why it is important that we recognize these hardworking Texans for the work they do each day to preserve and protect our environment and keep food on the table. Stopped By Natalia ISD I recently had the opportunity to meet with teachers, staff, and students at Natalia ISD to tour the campus and hear about some of the challenges they are facing this school year. I am proud to announce that more than $300 million in federal funding has been allocated this year to implement school security measures and provide additional training to teachers and faculty. I will continue to identify and advocate for federal grants to ensure our schools are safe havens for every child. Silver Creek Specialty Meats and Gourmet Coffee Small businesses across our district are bearing the brunt of inflation, labor, and supply chain issues. I stopped by Silver Creek Specialty Meats and Gourmet Coffee in Hondo where they offer a variety of meats, coffee, smoothies, and tea. We discussed the challenges they face as a small business and how inflation has affected them. In Congress, I am fighting for funding to help small businesses navigate these difficult times. Met with the Nueces River Authority I met with the Nueces River Authority to discuss their work to protect, preserve, and develop water resources in Texas. Each day they work hard to ensure that all Texans have access to clean water. Through my work in Congress, I was able to secure $18 million for the Technical Assistance and Training to Small Drinking Water Systems Serving less than 10,000 person populations. Discussed The Border Crisis on Fox and Friends House Democrats have proven that they want the reliability of the Hispanic vote without the responsibility of showing up. The bulk of them have given up, doubling down on illegal immigration despite record-breaking crossings, deaths, and human and drug smuggling.
