John ,

For more than 20 years, GLSEN has advocated against anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination policies—but we know it still happens all the time. LGBTQ+ students who are transgender, nonbinary, students of color, and students with disabilities face particularly hostile school climates.

Nobody should feel ashamed, outed, or othered while in a safe space for learning and growing. Nobody.
And the reality is that it doesn’t have to take place in a student’s state, or for them to be a direct victim of the law—for them to feel a sense of anxiety from the media coverage, and discourse being shaped by politicians.

John, I trust you know how important the upcoming midterm elections are.
Voters across our country have a voice in electing officials, shaping policy, and rising up for LGBTQ+ students. Because quality K-12 education is a fundamental right for every student, we’re proud to share these messages of support from Congress: [[link removed]]

I Rise Up for LGBTQ+ Students Because:
Every child deserves to be loved, cherished, and celebrated for who they are (Speaker Nancy Pelosi)
They should never be made to feel sorry for who they are, they should know that we are proud of who they are. (Congressman Mark Takano)
2 out of every 5 black LBTQ+ students experience harassment or assault at school. They deserve a country that loves, treasures, and protects them. (Congresswoman Cori Bush)

John, supporters like you fuel advocacy for safe and inclusive national, state, and local policies that create positive school climates for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Thank you.
