“Our opposition is counting on the NDRC to lose the energy and drive that our movement has sustained so far. We simply cannot afford to do that.”
President Obama

John,

I’m writing to explain how we’ve shifted our work at the NDRC in response to escalating Republican attacks on our democracy. (This is a long email, so if you don’t have time to read it all but would like to contribute, you can give at this link.)

With the support of President Obama, former Attorney General Eric Holder launched the NDRC in 2017 to address the persistent problem of Republican gerrymandering. As MSNBC’s Joy Reid put it: “Eric Holder… made it his mission literally to protect our democracy and to execute a redistricting strategy that helps rebalance power.”

We had a lot of success with our strategy. By starting years before redistricting kicked off, we helped win elections, built a robust grassroots network, and mobilized record levels of public engagement in the redistricting process – leading to the fairest congressional districts in 40 years, according to The New York Times!

But redistricting has always been part of the larger fight to protect our democracy – and with MAGA election deniers running for and in danger of winning key offices, the threat to our fundamental system of government is even greater.

That’s why the NDRC is applying our successful redistricting approach to shine a spotlight on races that are essential to protecting our democracy.

The last end of month deadline before Election Day is just two days away.
Will you support all of our work?

What does this entail? It means we’re supporting:

★ 13 candidates running for governor,
★ 5 for secretary of state,
★ 1 for state auditor,
★ and more than 400 for state legislature – all of whom could be the last line of defense against the dismantling of our democracy.

(This is on top of our work to preserve and expand access to voting and protect election infrastructure and administration across the country. Please chip in to support us.)

Here’s the thing: Like all of our work over the past five years, this effort will only be successful with the help of our grassroots community. The LAST end of month deadline before Election Day is just two days away. It’s never been a more important time to give.

Can we count on you to carry out our democracy-saving work?

In gratitude,
Kelly
