John, let’s talk
about the perceptions of crime during election season.

Our opponents LOVE to attack criminal justice reform with blanket
statements that cities with progressive DAs see violent crime rising. But
that could not be more FALSE.

An exhaustive new study recently released by the Center for American
Progress, reported on by The Atlantic, compared cities that have elected
progressive DAs and prosecutors versus more moderate approaches.

The conclusion? The study found that homicides over recent years increased
less rapidly in cities with progressive prosecutors than in those with
more traditional pro-mass incarceration district attorneys.

Conservatives who claim that our pro-civil rights DAs and their bold
approach to criminal justice are making communities less safe couldn’t be
more wrong.

Our DAs are creating real public safety solutions, freeing innocent people
from jail, ending mass incarceration, reforming bail systems, and
protecting our civil, human, and reproductive rights.

And that is why it’s so critical we fight against the misinformation and
fearmongering conservatives are putting out there this close to Election
Day and give our 9 endorsed candidates all the support we can.

That wasn’t all in the findings. The study also concluded:

* No meaningful differences between cities with progressive or
traditional DAs in the trends for larceny and robbery.
* Per capita murder rates in 2020 were 40 percent higher in states that
voted for Donald Trump than in those that voted for President Joe
Biden.
* From 2015 to 2019, the study found that murder rates increased in a
smaller share of cities with progressive prosecutors than in those
with traditional prosecutors, or prosecutors who fell in the middle.
* The absolute number of murders increased by more in the cities with
traditional and moderate prosecutors than in those with progressive
ones.
* When homicide rates jumped from 2020 to 2021, the study found, the
increase was slightly lower in the cities with progressive prosecutors
than in those with traditional prosecutors.

The facts are on our side!! We just need the tools and people-power to
spread the truth. That starts with doing as much voter outreach as we can
ahead of Election Day for our 9 candidates.

Together, we can show that progressive District Attorneys keep folks safe
and provide REAL, LASTING solutions — instead of just throwing more Black
and brown people in jail under the guise of “safety.”

outreach yet for our endorsed candidates nationwide. Together, we need to
spread the truth about the power of progressive DAs!

Let’s win this,

Real Justice
