When I was growing up, it wasn't expected that the Mexican-American son of a single mother would be destined for public office -- and certainly not serve as a presidential cabinet member.
Back then, a Latino had never served as a cabinet secretary. Kids on one side of town were expected to succeed. Kids on the other side were not.
I defied the odds then, and I need your help to defy the odds now.
I haven't always been a frontrunner in this race, but I haven't always been a frontrunner in life. And I know that with the support of people like you, we can surpass all expectations.
So I'm asking, as someone who knows what it takes to defy the odds, will you chip in $15 to my campaign?

I know that, this far out, the polling doesn't have me in first place yet.
But I was taught by my mother not to listen to what the naysayers and statistics predicted my future would be. And I'm not going to start listening to them now.
The next debates are in just 3 days. And we need the support of people like you, people who believe preconceived notions can be overcome, for our campaign to carry on.
I'm relying on grassroots support of people like you. Can you chip in even just a couple of dollars to fuel my campaign?

Thank you for believing in me,
Julián Castro
