Dear John,

I first met Brad Lander 7 years ago. He was organizing a broad coalition to craft a platform of 13 bold progressive policy ideas for the 2013 New York City elections. Of course, it turned into more like 130 bold ideas.

Looking back, it’s amazing how many of those ideas New York’s progressive movement has won. Police reform and paid sick days were just the beginning. The list is so long, on immigrants and tenants rights, the environment, workers rights and democracy. Brad has been deeply involved in nearly every progressive victory in New York this past decade.

Help Brad continue fighting for all New Yorkers. [[link removed]]

For Brad, politics is a team sport. He identifies as part of our movement, not an independent protagonist. He listens and learns, and brings people together with the strategic vision and rigor of a great organizer.

Brad brought all of those skills to the first campaign we worked on together in 2013, to win paid sick days for all New Yorkers [[link removed]] , over the objections of City Council leadership, Mayor Bloomberg, and corporate titans. Since then, Brad and I have never stopped working together. He has been the most important and loyal mentor of my career.

Beyond the organizing, politicking, and mentorship, Brad has become a dear friend. In the darkest weeks after my ALS diagnosis, Brad was there, advising me to keep up my work, in pursuit not of happiness or health, but of purpose and peace.

Every New Yorker deserves a friend as wise and loyal as Brad, but alas, that is not possible. But 8 million New Yorkers can have a great consolation prize, a Comptroller as strategic, driven, and righteous as Brad. I know he will bring his vision, his tenacity, and his compassion to the work of holding NYC accountable to its commitments and planning for a more just and more equitable future.

Every dollar New Yorkers contribute to his campaign will be matched 8:1 by New York City’s great public finance matching program. I can think of no better way for you to invest in making New York more just and equitable.

Support Brad's campaign today. [[link removed]].
This is how we can defeat the corporate interests attacking our communities: by investing in progressive organizations and leaders who struggle, arm in arm, to build a society that will make our children’s children proud.

Thank you,

Ady Barkan
