Friends & Fellow Parents,
If you’re like me, you have fond memories of trick or treating – whether as a child yourself or with your own children. You knew which houses had the full-sized candy bars and which to skip so you didn’t end up with a box of raisins. There were the houses that had pumpkins that looked like they were carved by a professional artist and others with the spookiest decorations!
Unfortunately, there’s a scarier issue at hand. The DEA and local health departments are warning parents and guardians to beware of “rainbow fentanyl” on the rise during this year’s Halloween festivities…a deliberate attempt by drug cartels to market drugs to our children. This highly addictive and dangerous drug comes in the form of rainbow-colored pills and has recently been found in Skittles, Nerds and SweeTart packaging.
While experts suggest it is unlikely the drug will end up in your children’s Halloween candy, health departments across Connecticut have recommended parents should remain vigilant. As we watch local officials take action, my opponent has done nothing to thwart the current fentanyl crisis at the border or in our district.
When I am your next Congresswoman I will protect our children and address the lack of security at our border, and put an end to the cartels pushing illegal and dangerous drugs into our country, exacerbating the already full-blown opioid emergency across the country and in our communities.
In the meantime, please stay safe and have a very happy Halloween with family and friends.
