Please join us in praying for our new King and our Government, and other important national matters.

We are particularly concerned for Scotland. The desire to appear ‘progressive’ has led to a series of proposals including ‘sex swaps’ for 16-year-olds, assisted suicide, and an extreme ‘conversion therapy’ ban. It is so important to pray.

Week of prayer: Autumn 2022

13-19 November

Sunday

OUR LEADERS

The authorities that exist have been established by God (Romans 13:1). They are God’s servants (v6). We should pray for them.

Pray first “…for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 TIMOTHY 2:2

Please pray:

  • Giving thanks for the life and witness of Queen Elizabeth II;
  • That King Charles III will seek and know God’s help in his new role;
  • For great wisdom and integrity for the UK Government, that despite the political turmoil it will promote what is good and restrain evil;
  • For God to raise up more leaders in our national life who follow Christ;
  • That believers working in public service will act as salt and light.

Monday

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Christians should not be barred from sharing the Gospel or subjected to online censorship.

“Pray…that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of ChristCOLOSSIANS 4:3

Please pray:

  • That a ‘conversion therapy’ ban will not outlaw prayer, pastoral care, and preaching repentance;
  • For our staff and for church leaders as they speak out on this;
  • That the Online Safety Bill will stop social media companies from censoring sermons and other mainstream Christian views;
  • For the Government to follow through on undertakings to ensure that adults’ free speech will be “the same online as offline”;
  • With thanksgiving that the controversial Bill of Rights Bill has been shelved.

Tuesday

OUR SCHOOLS

School should be a place where Christians are free to talk about their beliefs.

…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” MATTHEW 5:16

Please pray:

  • For our education team as they help parents, teachers and governors;
  • That pupils and teachers will be free to express Christian beliefs without being marginalised;
  • That Ofsted will stop promoting Stonewall policies;
  • For Christian-focused worship and RE to remain a requirement for schools;
  • That God will bless all those seeking to have a Christian influence in schools.

Wednesday

SANCTITY OF LIFE

Human life is precious because we are made in God’s image.

…your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” PSALM 139:16

Please pray:

  • Giving thanks that assisted suicide is currently illegal across the UK;
  • For the failure of attempts to legalise assisted suicide in Jersey and Scotland;
  • That God will bless those who uphold the sanctity of life, especially in difficult circumstances;
  • For a real change in public opinion to oppose abortion and euthanasia.

GENDER IDEOLOGY

Transgenderism seeks to destroy the God-given distinction between men and women.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” GENESIS 1:27

Please pray:

  • Giving thanks for the Westminster Government’s insistence that schools must not push children towards transgenderism;
  • Thanking God that the dangers of the NHS’s Gender Identity Development Service have been exposed;
  • That the Scottish Government would drop its plans to make ‘sex swaps’ available on demand from the age of 16;
  • That children would be protected from harmful transgender ideology being spread in schools and online.

OUR SOCIETY

Our secular society is desperate to move people away from God’s good instructions for his world.

…seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.Jeremiah 29:7

Please pray:

  • That God in his mercy will grant repentance and revival in the UK;
  • That God will grant good government in our land;
  • For more Christians to speak and act with wisdom and courage in defence of biblical truth.

THE CHRISTIAN INSTITUTE

We greatly value your prayers for our work and for all our staff around the UK.

Pray…that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel” EPHESIANS 6:19

Please pray:

  • For more opportunities to reach politicians and the media with our concerns on key issues for society;
  • That our new Living Christianity Youth resource would be well-received and widely used;
  • That the Lord would bless the staff and work of the Institute.
