Hello. We hope your Vote Early Day has been a good one, and that you’ve voted early, gotten off the pollercoaster, and signed up for a volunteer shift this weekend. 

But if you haven’t done those things already, it’s absolutely not too late! 

If you’re on the fence about volunteering, for whatever reason, don’t take it from us. Take it from Dan Pfeiffer: this is by far the most effective thing you could be doing right now to save our democracy.

You can hear more wise words from Dan at a phonebank kickoff next Tuesday, November 1st at 6pm ET.

In the meantime, please consider taking a few hours of your weekend to help turn out voters. It may not feel like it if you, like us, are terminally online, but there are millions of voters still making their decision—not just between candidates but also between voting and staying home. The most effective thing we can do now is have a conversation with those voters—whether you want to text, call, or knock doors. (But we’d prefer you knock doors if you can. If you’re reading this you’re probably too old to trick or treat so think of it as a fun replacement for that! Your treat will be saving democracy!)

Friends, with 11 days to go, we’ve got 3 messages for you. 

1️⃣ Vote Early. Tomorrow is Vote Early Day, which means that for most of us, early voting has already begun. You can use our handy Ballot Ready tool to find out everything you need to be an early voter and make your plan to do it if you haven’t already. Casting your ballot early not only ensures that you leave nothing to chance, but also enables campaigns to cross you off their lists and focus their attention on people who need more of a nudge to get out and vote. It also means you have crossed one big thing off your To Do list and can move on to using these final days to help other people vote early. Which leads us to…

2️⃣ Get off the Pollercoaster. This comes courtesy of our friend Dan Pfeiffer over at his Message Box: 

No one knows what’s going to happen in this election. It’s one of the most unusual in history. [...]

Polls are not supposed to predict what will happen. They are supposed to be a snapshot in time with a relatively wide margin of error. Even the best polls have an MOE of +/- three points. That’s a spread of six points. Almost all of the major Senate and governor’s races are happening in states where Joe Biden won by less than a point. These races were always destined to fall within the margin of error. Whether a poll shows Mandela Barnes up one or down one, it means the same thing — the race is too close to call.

Most of the races we care about are probably within not just the margin of error, but the margin of effort. Polls are a snapshot in time, and in the next 11 days, before the only count that actually matters, we can make a difference. This brings us to the last and most important point… 

3️⃣ Sign up to volunteer this weekend. If everyone who volunteered in 2020 signs up for at least one shift over the next 11 days, we can reach tens or even hundreds of thousands of voters. Elections have come down to way less. Find an in-person volunteer event  near you, or sign up for a virtual phonebank or textbank.

We’re less than 3000 shifts away from meeting our volunteer goal for the month of October. Will you help us reach that goal?

If you’re still not sure where to sign up, one great option is to join the aforementioned Dan Pfeiffer for a virtual phonebank into battleground states.
