This week, I was back on the road across our district in Worth, Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Buchanan, and Black Hawk Counties!

No matter who I talk to, or where I am, folks are telling me about the challenges they’re facing because of one-party rule in Washington, DC. From inflation and overregulation, to barriers in energy production, the Biden Administration’s agenda is hurting all of us.

I’m working to provide certainty for Iowa small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, workers, and families. That means being a check on the Biden Administration's policies that are failing Iowans, while proposing solutions to bring costs down by ramping up domestic energy production, helping Iowans keep more of their paychecks, and cutting bureaucratic red tape that drives up costs. 

The most important thing we can do right now to lower costs is to ramp up domestic energy production. President Biden seems to think our emergency reserves are for political emergencies, not national emergencies – I’ll continue to push back against his war on American energy so that we can lower costs for everyone.

The feedback I receive from Iowans is invaluable to my work in Washington. I’ll use the real-world stories I hear out on the road to show my colleagues in Congress why we need to change course and enact commonsense policies.

It was great to tour POET Bioprocessing to learn more about their ethanol production and meet with workers. Expanding the use of biofuels is key to regaining our energy independence and lowering the cost of gas!

I enjoyed visiting Deco Products in Decorah and hearing more about their operation. Their top priorities are re-shoring American manufacturing, sourcing local, and easing supply chain issues for their customers.

I met with folks at Osage Municipal Utilities and learned about how they provide gas, electricity, phone, and internet to Osage and the surrounding area. As Iowans are struggling to make ends meet and pay the bills, we discussed the importance of commonsense economic policies in Washington that will help make life affordable again.

It was great to tour SMI Co this week, one of the Midwest’s largest pallet manufacturers. Robust manufacturing is critical to keeping our rural communities vibrant – I’ll continue working to reduce costs and fix supply chain issues facing our rural manufacturers.

I visited Garnavillo Community Daycare this week -- I toured their new facility and we held a roundtable discussion about ways to improve access to child care and build the child care workforce. The community has come together to provide affordable, quality child care for families in the area. 

I enjoyed visiting Waukon Feed Ranch. I heard about how they've grown their operation from one small office to the great success it is today: a major feed mill, trucking business, and construction company that serves famers across the Midwest.

It was incredible to visit the Regional Tech Complex in Oelwein! Through partnership with NICC and local businesses, the tech complex offers unique educational opportunities for students interested in the trades and exposes them to these exciting, and lucrative, career opportunities.

I met with students participating in the Cedar Valley CAPS Program. They are gaining the skills to achieve their goals and find great job opportunities here in Iowa!

I spent an incredible afternoon this week with Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity hearing more about their efforts to improve affordable housing access in Waterloo. Their work is lifting people up and transforming lives in the community — thank you for the tour and for all you do!

It is an honor to receive the Defender of Small Business Award. One of my top priorities is advocating for, and supporting, small businesses and workers in Iowa. I’ve toured Main Street businesses and heard incredible stories about dreams turning into reality, customers turning into family, and countless opportunities created here in Iowa. I will continue to be a champion for Iowa’s small businesses in Congress.

This week, my team toured the SIM-IA mobile training simulator, a program administered by the University of Iowa College of Nursing. This program provides realistic and hands-on training for our health care providers in a safe learning environment.
