Hi John.

My mother served in the Army for twenty years. I learned so much about service, sacrifice, and dedication to country from her.

That’s why I’ve directed my office to help local veterans however we can. That includes helping folks recover backlogged benefits, resolve issues with VA health care, and more.

Recently, we were so pleased to help Frank Parra, a local Vietnam War veteran. Mr. Parra was repeatedly recognized for his heroic actions during the conflict. Unfortunately, he was unable to recover several missing medals after decades of trying.

Then he contacted our office for assistance. Our team was able to help him finally secure the honors he earned. Click here to learn more about it.

I was honored to present Mr. Parra with his six missing awards while he was surrounded by his family and friends.

Supporting our servicemembers and veterans should never be a partisan issue. I’ve been honored to work with Republicans and Democrats to support the men and women who’ve served our country in uniform.

That’s why I –

Helped pass the bipartisan Honoring Our PACT Act into law to help veterans who were exposed to toxic substances. Millions of veterans were exposed to toxins and airborne hazards from burn pits, and tragically many are now getting ill. Veterans who were exposed to these toxins deserve access to the quality health care they earned. This bill ensures that nearly two dozen health conditions caused by toxic exposure are now considered combat related. That’ll ensure 3.5 million veterans can finally receive the quality health care they need at the VA.

Passed the bipartisan Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act into law. I was glad to work with Republicans and Democrats to pass this bipartisan bill. For years, the cost-of-living increase for veterans’ benefits hovered only around 1.5 percent each year. But thanks to this bipartisan effort, last December monthly payments increased by the largest amount since 1983. This is crucial relief for thousands of disabled veterans across Kansas. And recently, I was glad to join with both parties again to pass another bipartisan law to ensure an additional increase.

Worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass the Protecting Moms Who Served Act. Our bipartisan law supports maternity care programs at VA medical centers and helps facilitate care coordination between VA facilities and non-VA facilities. The U.S. faces the worst maternal mortality rate of any developed nation. Thousands of women bravely serve our country and then return home to this reality. All women, including our veterans, deserve quality and affordable health care.

In addition, our team and I are always here to serve local veterans however we can. We have a Wounded Warrior and a Gold Star Fellow who are here to help.
