Last Saturday, I attended the Yakima Stand Down and Veterans Benefits Fair to meet with some of Central Washington's heroes. I had the chance to speak with many of our veterans and discuss some of the issues they are facing and how my office can best serve them.

Supporting Hanford's Cleanup Mission

Hanford played a critical role in bringing an end to World War II and the Cold War. Hanford played a critical role in bringing an end to World War II and the Cold War. Now, it is imperative the federal government continues to meet its legal and moral obligation to clean up the legacy of nuclear waste, and it is vital that all partners in this important cleanup mission, including the federal government, congressional delegation, the State of Washington, and local communities, work together in a concerted and responsible manner for the health and safety of communities in the Tri-Cities, Washington state, and the entire Pacific Northwest.

Yesterday, the entire Washington State Congressional delegation embodied this unity as, together, we called on the Biden Administration to continue to fund cleanup efforts at adequate levels. I look forward to continuing discussions with the Department of Energy and my colleagues in Congress to achieve the best possible FY24 Hanford budget.

My Commitment to Rural America

Americans have watched the Biden Administration and liberal Democrats in Congress recklessly spend trillions of dollars and lead our country into a recession, cripple infrastructure development and ignore desperately-needed reforms, and tie the hands of our energy producers, putting our nation at risk. House Republicans' Commitment to America is a promise to Americans that we will get America back on track. 

As Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, I am committed to delivering results for rural communities in Central Washington and across the United States. The Commitment is comprised of four pillars: An Economy That’s Strong, A Nation That’s Safe, A Future That’s Built on Freedom, and A Government That’s Accountable. 

I am proud to lead the Western Caucus in efforts to restore American energy dominance to lower costs for families, provide certainty for our agricultural industry and food supply chain, increase access to healthcare and reliable broadband, restore local control, deliver government transparency, and more.

Providing Certainty for Our Farmers

Our farmers and ranchers are the backbone of America—they provide nutritious food for families to put on their tables and contribute to our economy, food security, and energy independence. Instead of empowering our farmers and ranchers, the Biden Administration is weaponizing the Endangered Species Act to impose burdensome regulations on our producers. 

Just recently, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) made the decision to remove the regulatory definition of "habitat", leaving those who make a living off the land with uncertainty and no clear guidance. I am determined to hold this administration accountable—I joined my colleagues in writing a letter to the Biden Administration asking the Department of Interior to explain to the American people what legal and scientific basis, if any, guided the agency’s decision to rescind the habitat definition rule.

Hosted on a weekly basis by my staff, these hours are an excellent opportunity for constituents throughout Central Washington to get personal assistance with questions or issues related to federal agencies. Mobile Office Hours are open to the public, and no appointment is necessary.
