Dear neighbor,

Like you, I am deeply troubled by the recent acts of antisemitism we’ve seen in our community. I was disgusted and dismayed by the antisemitic banner displayed on the 405 last weekend and the flyers that were found in the Brentwood and Bel Air neighborhoods. These antisemitic flyers mirror those that were shared in Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, and other cities across the country in recent months. I condemn these hateful, bigoted acts in the strongest possible terms. My heart breaks for Jewish constituents who are once again on the receiving end of this kind of vitriol.

In August, I called on FBI Director Wray to open an investigation into earlier instances of antisemitic flyer distribution and asked for an update on the latest developments. I have not heard back from the FBI in a substantive way and am dismayed by the lack of progress on curbing these antisemitic acts. As a Member of the House Judiciary Committee and a co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, I take this matter seriously. This week, I once again called on federal law enforcement to address these incidents in our communities.

This week marks the four-year anniversary of the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh, where 11 people were murdered in their synagogue. In their memory, I stand in solidarity with our Jewish community. We will continue to stand against bigotry and fight for a safer community and country. We will not tolerate hate.

This week, I also:

  • Led a bipartisan letter urging better Medicare reimbursements for CCTA, a highly effective and non-invasive diagnostic test for coronary artery disease.
  • Applauded the Biden-Harris Administration’s announcement that nearly $95 million from the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program will be awarded to school districts across the Pacific Southwest, including 21 in California, to help purchase electric school buses.

Stay updated with your COVID boosters

The CDC is recommending that everyone ages 5 and up receive an updated bivalent COVID-19 booster if it has been at least 2 months since your last booster or final primary dose. The updated booster provides broader protection against the newer Omicron variants. Visit publichealth.lacounty.gov or vaccines.gov to find a COVID vaccine location near you.

Get your flu shot!

The CDC recommends annual flu shots for everyone 6 months and older. It’s best to get vaccinated before the flu starts spreading in your community. According to the CDC, September and October are good times to receive your flu shot. However, even if you can’t get your flu shot until November or later, it is still recommended for the winter season. For more information about the flu shot, please visit LA Public Health’s website
