Halloween is this Monday, and while our little goblins (ahem, I mean kiddos) take to the streets to collect sweet treats, a spooky danger threatens their safety.
The Boogeyman? Dracula? Elon Musk?
Nope. Fentanyl.
You read that right. The leading cause of death and the biggest drug epidemic in America has come for our children disguised as candy.
Since August of this year, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has warned that colorful fentanyl is specifically made to look like candy to our most vulnerable to drive up addiction among kids and young adults.
Candy-colored fentanyl and fentanyl pills have been seized in 26 states this year alone in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Just this week, fentanyl pills disguised in candy bags were seized at the Los Angeles airport.
Enough.
This is why I am pushing for more severe punishments for drug traffickers with the Fentanyl Traffic Elimination Act. Come for our kids, and you’ll get the hammer dropped on you. Period.
I’ll keep fighting tooth and nail to protect our kids and our communities. Meanwhile, I hope you have a happy Halloween, and stay safe out there folks.
