NCRC Statement On FHFA Credit Score Model Changes

“I applaud the modernization of a system that has too long punished the marginalized by ignoring the most significant expenses in a working-class life. Old, outmoded models of determining a person’s creditworthiness have been fencing too many families out of homeownership for decades by pretending that a person’s biggest monthly expenses didn’t exist when deciding what sort of mortgage they could afford." Pioneering Mystery Shopper Tests On Appraisal Bias Find Detailed Evidence Of Racial Discrimination

Appraisers assigned higher average monetary values to homes when they believed them to be White-owned, NCRC’s mystery shoppers discovered. White testers received valuations $7,000 higher on average than their Black partners who showed the same home. The discriminatory discrepancies were as high as 9% and 13% in two cases. NCRC Launches Capital Accelerator Program For Business Resource Providers

COVID Stimulus Programs Helped More Consumers Become Banked, FDIC Says

The FDIC, in a survey conducted in 2021 and released on Tuesday, found that 4.5% of Americans didn't have a bank account in 2021, the lowest level since the FDIC began its biennial survey in 2009. It gave free college and cheap home loans to millions of veterans, except the U.S. was still segregated when the GI Bill became law.
