California’s “Prop 1” ballot measure would add abortion to the state’s constitution

By: The Daily Citizen

California’s “Prop 1” ballot measure would add abortion to the state’s constitution.

Focus on the Family president Jim Daly recently spoke with San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone about this draconian measure.

“It's the next generation that is being sacrificed for the conveniences and desires of the adults,” lamented the Archbishop.

If you’re a voter in the Golden State, please VOTE NO ON PROP. 1!

3 Myths About the 2022 Midterm Elections

By: Paul Batura

With exactly two weeks to go until Election Day 2022, attention and enthusiasm are building around the country. In fact, with the proliferation of mail balloting and early voting, millions of Americans have already made their decisions.

A surge in ballots in October doesn’t necessarily translate to a record turnout in November, though it’s a strong indication citizens are interested and engaged. By this time in a campaign, the ground game becomes key and king. Candidates and supporters of specific initiatives are distributing fliers, ringing doorbells, calling homes and standing on street corners with signs promoting their choice.

It all comes down to who turns out.

“Elections belong to the people,” said Abraham Lincoln. “It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”

Voter apathy has long been a challenge in campaigns. With that in mind, here are three myths that regularly rear their ugly head each election cycle:

1.
“My one vote doesn’t matter”
2. “Elections aren’t safe and secure. Why should I bother?”
3. “What difference does it make? Politicians are all the same.”

No, ‘Roe v. Wade’ Did Not Contain Any Restrictions on Abortion – Don’t Let Anyone Say It Did

By: Bruce Hausknecht

As voters prepare to head to the polls, the issue of abortion keeps coming up. Although polls have indicated that only about 5% of voters identify the issue as “the most important problem facing the country today,” it remains important to address vague or incorrect claims made in support of abortion, including the latest argument we’ve heard from some abortion supporters that Roe v. Wade was reasonable because it contained restrictions on abortion.

The implication is that the Left is fine with the “restrictions” that Roe supposedly placed on abortion, and conservatives should be as well.

It’s all a ploy. And a desperately weak one at that.

The Left’s current political orthodoxy will not consider any restrictions on abortion whatsoever. Abortion supporters attempt to paint pro-life Americans as extreme, but they themselves will not tolerate any limitation at all. That is their official position.

That’s why any attempt on the Left to portray Roe as containing acceptable restrictions on abortion is nonsense.

It did not. And it’s important to understand why it didn’t.

Before it was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in June in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Roe, along with its 1973 companion case, Doe v. Bolton, stood for two basic legal propositions.

Arkansas Voters Considering Constitutional Amendments on Religious Freedom and Recreational Marijuana

By: Bruce Hausknecht

Arkansas voters are being asked to consider two new state constitutional amendments that would impact Christians and their families. Issue 3 would promote religious freedom by keeping state and local governments from “burdening” a person’s religious freedom even if the burden results from a rule of general applicability. Issue 4 would legalize recreational marijuana in the state.

Focus on the Family joins with our Arkansas ally, Family Council, to urge Arkansas voters to vote “Yes” on Issue 3 and “No” on Issue 4. Issue 3 is a constitutional version of Arkansas’ 2015 statute known as Act 975, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). It is patterned after the federal 1993 statute by the same name.

The amendment would “provide that government may never burden a person’s freedom of religion except in the rare circumstance that the government demonstrates that application of the burden to the person is in furtherance of a compelling government interest and is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling government interest.”

Such laws are necessary to guarantee Christians (and all citizens of other faiths) the right to live their lives according to their deeply held beliefs, even when local governments pass laws that promote ideologies contrary to religious faith, disguised, for example, as “nondiscrimination” ordinances and statutes.

Nevadans to Vote on Enshrining ‘Sexual Orientation’ and ‘Gender Identity’ Protections in State Constitution

By: Zachary Mettler

Nevadans in this year’s upcoming midterm elections will decide on a ballot measure that would enshrine “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” into the state’s constitution as legally protected classes.

If passed this fall, the measure would make Nevada the first state in the nation to enshrine those two categories as protected classes in its state constitution.

The so-called “Equality of Rights Amendment,” or “Question 1” on Nevadans’ ballots would add the following provision to the Nevada state constitution:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry or national origin.”

According to Ballotpedia, the Nevada legislature voted last year to put the measure on this year’s general election ballot. The Nevada Senate voted 18-3 in favor of the proposal, while the Nevada Assembly approved it in a 30-12 vote.

Though protecting individuals because of an “equality of rights” sounds nice – it’s hardly an innocuous move.

Adding “gender identity” as a legally protected class would give extra rights to anyone who claims to be a gender different than their biological sex.
