I won’t lie: this year hasn’t been easy. During the summer, I was laid up with an injury that essentially put our campaign on hold for several weeks. Just a couple months ago, I lost a 12th student to gun violence. I’ve been the target of racist messaging.

The incumbent - an ineffectual and entrenched career politician - told me directly that he beat me last year only because people know his name better than they know mine. While all of this was going on here in Illinois’ Seventh District, the president and his administration have made a mockery of our values with their racist, elite, and big business priorities.

And although we’ve been out getting to know the voters of IL-07 every single day, we’ve had some slow fundraising months. We have a strong team, but that team needs resources to reach every single voter we need to win.

For all these reasons and more, we need you to step up today and support our campaign. Tomorrow’s the last FEC filing deadline before the March primary. If we don’t report strong numbers for the fourth quarter, we risk losing the ground we’ve gained through sheer hard work and willpower.

For IL-07 to have a prayer for a better future, it needs a representative who truly cares and who truly knows its struggles. If we allow more of the same, then we allow more pain. Isn’t it time we shattered this broken system and replaced it with a new one that’s for us and by us?
