As we head into 2020, our team took some time this month to reflect on what we're building.
For too long, politicians have gotten away with hiding the map-drawing process away from the public and creating lines that benefit themselves and distort democracy.
That's why our team is working to organize and empower folks to be engaged in the redistricting process, whether elected officials like it or not.
Through Redistricting U, we trained more than 450 people on the basics of redistricting. It was a key step to building a movement of people who can recognize unfair maps and advocate for new ones.
In 2020, we're excited to work with AOTL volunteers to build power in our communities, educate voters on the impacts of gerrymandering, advocate for accurate census counts, and help people fight back against the system working to disenfranchise their voices.
New year. New decade. New maps. The redistricting process happens once a decade -- this is our chance to make sure the maps are fair and our democracy is in the hands of the people.
