Friend, Tomorrow, Oct. 28, the SPLC’s Efrén Olivares will visit the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama, for a special conversation about his new book, “My Boy Will Die of Sorrow: A Memoir of Immigration from the Front Lines.” The event will be livestreamed — so wherever you are, you’re invited to watch! Please RSVP here, selecting “Livestream” under the “RSVP type” field. (If you are able to make it to Montgomery tomorrow evening, please feel free to register for the in-person event as well! You can use the same RSVP form; just select “In-person” under “RSVP type.”) “My Boy Will Die of Sorrow” reflects on Olivares’ own immigrant experience, on what family separations at the border do to families, and how the act of separation itself adds another layer to the immigrant identity. Watch Olivares share more about his book in this live news segment from WSFA 12. Olivares directs the Immigrant Justice Project at the SPLC. He immigrated to the United States from Mexico as a teenager and was the first in his family to attend college. The event will be hosted by Tafeni English, director of the Civil Rights Memorial Center, and the conversation with Olivares will be moderated by Lecia Brooks, SPLC chief of staff and culture. The talk will be livestreamed from 6:10 p.m. - 7 p.m. CDT. We hope you can join us tomorrow. Sincerely, Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
