On Saturday, Oct. 29, PAWS Chicago is taking our No Kill mission to the next level. Our 30,000-square-foot Medical Center will be transformed into the headquarters for our FIRST Spay Day Marathon, where we plan to perform surgery on more than 300 pets in a single day.
Our focus is prevention of homeless pet euthanasia, and offering high-volume, free and low-cost spay and neuter is the key. PAWS Chicago is on track to perform more than 15,000 of these procedures in 2022, and is the city's only organization offering high-volume spay/neuter to under-resourced communities.
Executing a successful Spay Day Marathon takes a lot of people and a lot of passion.
“We're bringing in more doctors for surgeries and certified vet techs for anesthesia. And we're going to have separate rooms for cat and dog surgeries, and multiple rooms for recovery. There will be someone monitoring the pets from the time they check in until the time they check out,” said Dr. Alycia Eisenstein, PAWS Director of Spay/Neuter.
Reducing the unwanted pet population is the solution to eliminating euthanasia and building a No Kill Chicago. Our Spay Day Marathon is a working reminder of the commitment to our mission.
