Hi John,
Many of you asked what we’ve been hearing on the ground about voter suppression here in Texas, so I wanted to share a few examples. But I want to make clear that these are reports.
We have been asking everyone with stories to report them to the precinct judge, call Election Protection at 1-800-OUR-VOTE, and share the story with us at here so we can follow up.
We’re in contact with a nationally known voting-rights lawyer about how to investigate and document these reports, and how to proceed with the legal case.
We will continue to provide you with updates, but in the meantime here are a few of the reports we are hearing:
|
|
- We have a report from Montgomery County of at least one voter given the wrong ballot and having it thrown out, and a second report to the same effect from Harris County.
- We have reports from Collin, Harris, Montgomery, and Travis Counties of repeated attempts at voter intimidation by poll watchers violating or skirting the rules.
- A number of people from Harris County, Martin County, Travis County, and Williamson County have reported machine errors, including incorrectly recording vote inputs, as well as incorrect or confusing instructions from poll workers.
- We have reports from Hays County and elsewhere that poll workers have turned away voters on the theory that they were not registered, even when they had their registration cards, and other poll workers have refused to accept passports or recently expired driver licenses even though they are valid IDs for voting in Texas.

We’re keeping up the work of collecting reports so that we can provide them to counsel. And we won’t quit working until we’ve put a stop to voter suppression in whatever sorry form it takes.
