LULAC DENOUNCES DELIBERATE MISINFORMATION CAMPAIGNS STIRRING FEAR IN LATINO
VOTERS
===========================================================================
Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization In Colorado Leads
the Call to Stop Scare and Confusion Tactics Aimed at Keeping Latinos from the
Polls
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued the
following statement in the wake of a multi-state misinformation campaign being
used to confuse potential voters and keep them from the polls. The American First
Legal Foundation [ [link removed] ]
(AFLF) is one of the organizations leading the anti-transgender movement. The
group is led by Stephen Miller who worked as senior political advisor in the
Trump Administration.
Sonny Subia – Colorado LULAC State Director
"I am appalled and angered by the number of blatant misrepresentations and lies
spewed on our Spanish-speaking communities. For example, the statements being
made to scare parents using the transgender issue to drive a wedge with
falsehoods is shameful and a disservice to our non-English speaking voters.
Colorado LULAC and every reasonable American can and should stand up and say no
to lies for the sake of votes."
Jesse Garcia, Chair of the National LULAC LGBTQ Affairs Committee
"Parents and trans youth deserve to make their own medical decisions and privacy
with their doctors, and not become some political attack talking point.
Mischaracterizing the treatments as medical experiments for political gain is
dehumanizing and wrong. It is shameful that politicians are pitting two
communities against each other."
Domingo Garcia – LULAC National President
"Throughout the country, we are seeing vicious negative ads that make
misinformation statements to play on voters' fears to the point that many will
not vote because they think it may be a mistake. Politics should not be about who
can lie the best; politicians should be elected for what they can do to serve
their constituents. Instead, we see the worst of the worst in people when ads are
produced to see how many views or clicks they can get. That's the wrong measure
of public discourse in races for elected office, and LULAC is against this type
of campaign."
