John, we need to talk with you about the elephant in the room.
Big Tech.
Silicon Valley has failed to respond to reports of discrimination and harassment with real solutions. From facial recognition systems that surveil and spy on our communities to algorithms that discriminate against us, corporations like Google, Amazon and Facebook continue to perpetuate racial inequities in our society.
Big Tech’s fake solutions distract us from the real, intentional harm their companies do to Black people. They pocket massive profits, no matter the cost to the rest of us. Worse of all, their fake solutions overshadow the progress that this community has won in recent years.
Color Of Change has worked to create real solutions to the problems Big Tech creates: anti-competitive practices, algorithmic discrimination, invasions of privacy and the disinformation and misinformation crisis. Despite some companies' aggressive resistance to accountability, Color Of Change will continue to bring you independently researched and peer-reviewed solutions to the tech problems you and your community face every day.
If you’re ready to address the issues caused by Big Tech in your community, join Color Of Change as a first-time contributor. We’re asking members just like you to become part of real solutions that advance racial equity in tech.
Recently, Color Of Change launched the Black Tech Agenda — a comprehensive set of solutions that are based on racial justice strategies and help root out bias and discrimination from the digital lives of Black people and everyone.
The Black Tech Agenda offers real solutions rooted in expertise. It includes strategies that prevent Big Tech from, for instance, helping banks deny loans to Black people, emboldening racist law enforcement practices and giving employers excuses to reject Black job applicants. Our plan for tech equity dismantles Big Tech systems that block Black people from sharing our voices online and erases the unfair advantage big businesses use to destroy Black small businesses that compete with them.
Our Black Tech Agenda shows how leaders in Washington can rein in a powerful, unregulated industry that is doubling down on discrimination. Your support in this fight for tech justice matters. With your contribution, John, we can remake the virtual world into a safer place for everyone. Will you join us?
