Introduction to Portfolio Careers: Improving Your Art-Work-Life Balance

Wednesday, November 16, 2022, 1–3 pm ET

Are you pursuing a creative career, but struggling with burnout because your attention is pulled in too many directions? Do you wish there was a way to curate your career, so that you could feel more fulfilled and/or juggle multiple income streams more effectively? The Career Center

The Career Center offers a comprehensive suite of online programs and services that help entertainment industry and performing arts professionals to identify and find sideline work and discover new careers outside the industry.

Get started by attending The Career Center Orientation (Monday or Thursday* session) to enroll in the career services offered. Once you've done that, you can enroll in workshops including Classroom Management Workshop*, Resume Writing Workshop, Act I and Time & Energy: Balancing the Multiple Demands of Art, Work and Life*.

Financial Wellness

Financial Wellness online workshops and seminars increase your financial knowledge and help you learn the tools and skills to support lifelong financial health and stability.

Take Budgeting Nuts & Bolts, proudly sponsored by Actors Federal Credit Union, to learn the basics of financial wellness. Additional workshops include Money Matters: Investing Basics for Creative Professionals - Part 3.

Health & Health Insurance

The Entertainment Community Fund offers personalized health insurance counseling and enrollment support, referrals to health care resources and seminars on how to care for yourself.

You can also join us for Welcome to Medicare and Every Artist Insured: Getting Affordable Coverage in NY/NJ.

The Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, our primary and specialty care health center, is open for appointments. The Health Center accepts most insurance plans, including commercial insurances, several Marketplace/Exchange plans, Medicare and Workers’ Compensation. Call 212.930.7300 for an appointment.

Housing

The Entertainment Community Fund operates several affordable housing residences across the country, and also offers resources to help you learn more about affordable housing opportunities and other housing-related issues you may encounter.

Our Housing Connect 2.0 Tutorial will help applicants navigate New York City’s latest housing lottery system, understand changes to the process and show you how to set up a new profile. If you haven't already, we recommend that you participate in our Applying for Affordable Housing webinar as a prerequisite.

Additional workshops include Apartment Hunting 101: Strategies for Finding Housing in New York City and Affordable Housing for Seniors in NYC.

Social Services

With respect and understanding, our professional social workers offer our community help to address a wide array of challenges via online and phone counseling and support groups, education and practical help—completely free of charge.

The next cohort of the Good Grief Support Group starts soon. Learn more and request a pre-group interview. Additional offerings include Mindfulness Meditation with the Entertainment Community Fund.


In NYC emergencies can happen at any time. Notify NYC is a new program from the New York City Office of Emergency Management designed to keep you up to date about emergencies and services that impact all New Yorkers, whether it’s at home, work or in the community. Choose from alerts about events, public health, school closings and delays, and parking rules suspensions, and have them sent to your either your email or mobile phone.
